Dominique Piron – Now in Ontario!

Recently I posted my thoughts on the fantastic Beaujolais producer Dominique Piron. I also mentioned that the wines are not available in Canada. It turns out, I was wrong. While I still wish that these bottles were available at the LCBO the people at Lifford (LINK) have brought in a couple of fantastic bottles from the producer.

per the comment below, I have been corrected, and reminded that Dominique Piron has been available in BC and also the SAQ for some time now. It’s only us folks in Ontario that are late to the party.

2014 Beaujolais Villages – $19.99 – **** – Meaty, Smoky and Cherry climb out of the glass. The nose is heavy but once the wine hits your mouth you are greeted with restraint and elegance. Lots of ripe cherry with something a little funky mixed in there. This wine is well balanced with nice acidity and mineral appears on the finish. No aging required or recommended enjoy this wine immediately.

2014 Morgon La Chanaise – $24.99 – ***** – The rich and heavy nose is all fresh ripe red cherry. This is extremely concentrated and intense in the mouth. Raspberry, and Cherry with a nice hint of spice on the finish. The finish is smooth and elegant. The problem with wines like this is that they present you with a dilemma – should you drink it now, or should you hold onto the bottle? This wine will age beautifully in a cellar for 10-20 years, but it is drinking great now. Beaujolais is secret in the wine world offering exceptional value and age able wines… But with producers like Dominique Piron it’s only a matter of time before the world finds out.
