2014 Trius Gamay Noir

2014 Trius Gamay Noir – $19.95 – ****+ – Winery Only and Wine Shop Locations – This is the first Trius Gamay I have had the chance to taste in recent memory. There is a lot going on in this bottle but I hesitate to use the word complex … because a wine like this isn’t meant to be “sophisticated”. It’s medium bodied and fruity with just the right amount of tannin on the finish that if you decided to age this wine for 5-7 years you would enjoy it while it ages. Even if this is a wine you want to add to a collection on your way to becoming a hardened wine “snob” it is anything but a “snobs” wine. The fruit is Cherry with slight peppery notes on the finish and there is just a bit of this funk that comes off the nose that you can’t quite put your finger on… all you know is you want to taste it. It will pair with Red Meat, Salmon, Pork Dishes, most chicken dishes… in fact I would say that this wine will pair with almost everything except the lightest of dishes.
