2013 Wildass Sauvignon Blanc – 2014 Hat Trick Cabernet Merlot

This isn’t a part of my regular weekly reviews. But these are a couple of wines that I have tasted through recently that I thought were worth sharing with you. It was certainly nice to get into some quality more pocket book friendly wines after my visit to California.

2013 Wildass Sauvignon Blanc – $16.95 – **** – Sauv Blanc has quickly worked it’s way up as one of my favorite Ontario grapes. I don’t have any in my cellar because I can’t keep it in the house without drinking it. Very dry with nice grassy notes and lots of lemon and lime citrus flavours make this a perfect match to fish or chicken but I enjoyed this best on it’s own on a patio after picking it up at the Evergreen Brickworks market. Honestly the Wildass series from Stratus continues to be one of your biggest bangs for your buck (speaking of which Stratus also makes a Kabang! Red).

2014 Hat Trick Cabernet Merlot – LCBO 424663 – $14.95 – ***1/2 – This is a solid easy drinking friday night sipper. Unpretentious and fruit driven but not lacking in structure. The nose is Strawberry, Raspberry and Blackberry. The flavours match with just a touch of smoke on the finish and nice soft tannin. Not every wine needs to spend time in your cellar so enjoy this one now. This will make a great match to Pizza, Burgers, or Ribs.
